Approved For Release 2009/04/28: CIA-RDP05T00644R000300890006-9 GUEST SPEAkER VICE ADMIRAL JAMES BOND STOCKDALE, Medal of Honor winner and President of the Naval War College, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1946. During the next twenty years, he served successively as a destroyerman, carrier aviator, landing signal officer, test pilot and instructor, fighter pilot, graduate student, aircraft squadron commander, and air wing commander. He led the initial strikes from a carrier deck in the Tonkin Gulf against North Vietnam in 1964. Shot down and captured over a year later during his second combat tour in Vietnam, he spent most of his seven and one-half years of imprisonment in solitary confine- ment. Despite repeated torture and years of restraint in leg irons and handcuffs he maintained contact with his fellow Americans by secret means, setting standards and policy for the prisoners' organization and united resistance. He is the most highly decorated officer in the Navy. SYBIL BAILEY STOCKDALE, the wife of Vice Admiral Stockdale, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mt. Holyoke College, and a Master of Arts degree from Stanford University. Before her marriage in 1947, she was a member of the faculty of St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Va. During the first 18 years of life as a Navy wife, she taught at several high schools, raised four sons, and moved 23 times! After her husband became a POW in North Vietnam in September 1965, Mrs. Stockdale attained national stature as the founder and initial Board Chairman of the National League of Families of American Prisoners and Missing in Southeast Asia. Throughout the remainder of the war she met regularly with Dr. Kissinger and periodically with the President. She also travelled to Paris for a confrontation with the North Viet- namese delegation to the Paris Peace talks. RICHARD V. EASTIN is currently Director of Research for the Center for the Study of Private Enterprise at the University of Southern California (USC). After attending Pomona College, he received his B.A. degree in economics from University of California, Santa Barbara, in 1967. In 1971, he received his Ph.D. in economics also from the Univ. of California, Santa Barbara, where he received a doctoral disser- tation fellowship from Resources for the Future Foundation. In the fall of 1971, Eastin joined the faculty of the Graduate School of Business, Univ. of Southern California, where he was tenured as Associ- ate Professor of Business Economics in 1977. His teaching has been in the areas of economic theory, managerial economics, and urban land use. He has also served as consultant to state and local governments and a number of large corporations. Delaware) was re-elected to his second term in the United States Senate in November 1967. His re-election capped a decade of Congressional service, as he was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1966. In the Senate Senator Roth has played a prominent role in the development of legislation to promote economic recovery and fiscal respon- sibility, curb inflation, cope with energy problems, protect the environment and create a more open and accountable government. As a member of two key Senate Committees, Finance and Government Affairs, and the ranking member of important subcommittees, Senator Roth has won a reputation as a staunch advocate of an equitable tax system and responsible government spending and fiscal policies. He is also a member of the Congressional Joint Economic Committee. A graduate of the Univ. of Oregon, the Senator holds a Master's degree from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Laws degree from Harvard Law School. In World War II he served as an intelligence officer in the Far East and South- east Asia, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. MICHAEL J. McCARTHY is a Senior Consultant with Lawrence-Leiter and Company handling a broad range of financial, educational and planning assignments. Mr. McCarthy joined Lawrence-Leiter after several years as a financial consultant and economic advisor to professional and family corporations and individual and private estates in California. In addition to his background in management techniques, he has extensive knowledge of securities, tax incen- tive investments, retirement plans, real estate and estate planning, and insurance. Mr. McCarthy is a member of the International Association of Finan- cial Planners. He has been certified as a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) and has done post- graduate work at Stanford University, University of Georgia, and the University of California. 0. THOMAS LYON joined The Babcock & Wilcox Company in 1967. Since then he has served as Production Manager-Core Structural Procurements; Manager of General Purchasing-Naval Nuclear Fuel Division; and Manager of Materials-Customer Parts & Services. Prior to joining B&W, Mr. Lyon was Production Planning Manager for Diebold, Incorporated, manu- facturers of bank vault. equipment and filing systems. Mr. Lyon has a degree in Business Manage- ment from Central Virginia College and is currently attending the University of Akron. He is a member of the National Association of Purchasing Manage- ment (NAPM) and the American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS). Golf: Men and Ladies will each play an 18-hole Tournament for prizes, not trophies. Entry fees of $15.00 per person, covering carts, greens fees, and scoring. Rental clubs and shoes will be the individual's responsibility. Tennis: All expense's will be paid for FIA-organized events. Tournament entry fees are $7.00 per person for Singles, and $4.00 per person for Doubles. Details of Tennis Tournaments will be available at FIA's Registration. All Tournament entry fees will be billed after the meeting. GRATUITIES: Included in your room rates are tips for: maid service and baggage handling in and out of the hotel. Under the MAP Plan gratuities are included for all FIA-scheduled meal functions. Gratuities for all other meals, bar charges, valet and room service, etc., are the individual's responsibility. WHAT TO WEAR: The look in Palm Springs is definitely casual; lightweight to medium- weight pants with blouses, shirts or sweaters are favored, although summery dresses and shorts are also seen. Open- necked sport shirts or knit polo shirts with slacks or walking shorts are the best choices for men. Sweaters, jackets, and stoles will be needed for evening and for occasional daytime wear. For dining out at luxury restaurants women will wear their less casual outfits. Men will feel comfortable in dressy sports coats, open-neck sports shirts and slacks.
