In response to your letter about a picture for Thomas Gates of the
Naval Museum of the Pacific, we have searched the files to see if there
were pictures as Gates described. Unfortunately there is not. However,
since he wants something with a little heraldry, I selected the enclosed
color photograph taken at the Change of Command in March. In addition,
I have enclosed a color drawing of the AFSOUTH shield that could be sent
with the photograph. Perhaps Mr. Gates can use them in tandem. I did not
forward the enclosed directly to Mr. Gates because I thought you might
like to see them and forward them yourself.
I have been reading the press on your work as DCI and what I have seen
has been nicely positive. Also, some of my friends in the media are giving
you high marks on credibility, a fine accolade, indeed, in Washington.
