It is intended to serve as an index of intelligence items covered on a particular mission and contains pertinent photographic information related to such items. The JMCI chart-form listings of intelligence items are accompanied by the appro- priate WACs. The arrangement of items is generally by flight line, beginning with the lowest numbered photographs of intelligence interest and proceeding along the flight path to the highest numbered. A subject index, containing items arranged alphabetically by category, appears in a separate listing. The chart-form listing contains the following entries (Paragraphs are numbered to correspond with column headings on the chart forms): 1. PIC Target Number: PIC target numbers are comprised of two elements: (1) the WAG number for the area in which the target lies, and (2) a numerical designation (occa- sionally followed by a capital letter) for the specific target within that WAC area, i.e., 246-006 designates target number 6 in WAC 246. In addition to being listed in the text, targets are plotted on the pertinent WACs in this report. 2. Name of Installation: The name will be given, if known. If not, the installation will be titled according to an associated geographic name or according to obvious use, such as storage area, instrumentation station, etc. 3. Description and BE Number: Descriptions of installations listed will be brief and consist basically of changes since previous coverage. BE numbers will be given when they exist. 4. Exposure Numbers and Grid Reference: If more than two exposures cover the installation, only two exposures will be listed, usually those providing the best stereo coverage. Following exposure numbers will be the grid reference, a letter and number combination, within parentheses, designating the position of the item on the first frame listed. Extensive installations, such as a test range or large urban area, do not carry a grid reference. An example of target location by Universal Reference Grid is shown in the Appendix. 5. Camera Position: Mission B 4155 was flown with the B configuration. The posi- tion of Camera 9 on the two exposures listed under 4, above, will be noted. (V - vertical; IL - first oblique, left side; 2L - second oblique, left side; 3L - third oblique, left side; 1R, 2R, 3R - first, second, third oblique, right side.) 6. Total Exposures: This figure will indicate the total number of exposures that cover the installation even though only two exposures are listed in the preceding column. -3- PIC/JMCI-1/60 7. Cloud Information: This letter designation indicates cloud conditions as they exist over the listed installation. The letter designations are as follows: Clear SC Scattered Clouds HC Heavy Clouds 0 Overcast Haze (includes smoke, blowing snow and dust) CS Cloud Shadow (cloud shadows cast on ground reducing interpretability) 8. Subject Code: Thirteen categories are used; they are as follows: 1 Airfields 2 Atomic Energy 3 Electronics and Telecommunications 4 Industry 5 Liquid Fuels 6 Military Installations 7 Missiles 8 Naval Installations 9 Ports and Harbors 10 Storage Facilities, General 11 Transportation 12 Urban Areas 13 Miscellaneous 9. Coordinates: Coordinates are given to the nearest minute for the approximate center of the installation. 10. Country: The country is designated by the two letter code used in the Bombing Encyclopedia. SUMMARY OF COVERAGE OF MISSION Mission B 4155, flown 9 April 1960, covered an area within the Soviet Union extending from the Fergana Valley north to Lake Balkhash, northeast to Semipalatinsk, south and west to include the area between Lake Balkhash and Dzhezkazgan and thence south to Tyura Tam and Mary. The suitability for photographic interpretation ranges from poor to good, due chiefly to atmospheric conditions. Over-all cloud cover was approximately 40%, with the heaviest concentration over Andizhan and Tyura Tam. Major items of intelligence interest covered include a new launch area under construction at Tyura Tam, considerable missile-associated activity in the Sary Shagan - Dzhezkazgan area, and seven major airfields. Details of these and other installations have been described in and these details have not been re- ODE 4155, PAR-582-60, 16 April 1960 (TS peated in this JMCI.
