during World War I, charter member of Melvin Post,
No. 642, American Legion, serving as post commander,
county commander, and seventeenth district commander;
member of Ford County Farm Bureau; Methodist; 33d
degree Maeon; member of board of directors, Illinois
Wesleyan University; actively engaged in banking and
farming since 1920; elected to the Seventy-fourth Congress
on November 6, 1934; reelected to the Seventy-fifth,
Seventy-sixth, Seventy- seventh, Seventy- eighth, Seventy-
ninth, Eightieth, Eighty-first, Eighty-second, Eighty-third,
Eighty-fourth, and Eighty-fifth Congresses.
