Dear Dr. Sampson:
I am forwarding 20 CIA-originated documents (60 pages) that
you selected during your research at the John F. Kennedy Library in
Boston. These documents are released for your use in writing the
1961-1963 volume in the Foreign Relations of the United States series.
I shall also enclose a copy of the Library's shipping manifest. The
documents released'are as follows:
Nos. 1, 2, 4, 5a, 6, 7, 8, 10a, lob, lOc, lOd, 11, 12a, 12b,
12c, 12d, 12e, 13a, 13b, 14.
Since documents #3a, 3b, and 9 contain information concerning
sensitive intelligence sources and methods, we must deny the request
for their release
We should also note that since Nos. 5a and 5b are the same
document, we have released only 5a.
These documents are released in classified form, with the
understanding that you will observe the usual caveats concerning
CIA review prior to declassification, downgrading, or publication of
material from CIA-originated documents in any unclassified publication.
I shall enclose a copy of the "CIA Access Policy" for your informa-
tion.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Ms. Suzanne K. Forbes,
Archivist at the John F. Kennedy Library, and to Dr. James E. O'Neill,
Assistant Archivist for Presidential Libraries, National Archives
and Records Service.
