a. Purpose
(1) To personally visit those installations or
areas where FE medical support is represented by physi-
cians, and to assist, advise and confer with these
officers as necessary in order to aid them in the accom-
plishment of their specialized missions.
(21 To evaluate by personal observation and on-the-
spot briefing, the status of logistical and other support
functions with medical aspects, so that problems of
requirements, commitments and nising can be effectively
and more convincingly transmitted to the responsible
offices at Headquarters.
(3) To visit such sites as you may designate where
medical facilities do not yet exist, but which will
require some preliminary survey for the purpoee of
planning and estimating future medical personnel and

As you know, three of these doctors are at
the sites now; the other three are either in
training or await full clearances and should
be at their posts within two months. If, by
1 Augusts there are any other physicians
assigned to your field stations, it would be
desirable to include them in this survey.
Periods indicated will obviously be subject
to wide variations, depending upon local circum-
stances. Travel time has not beenincluded.

from hashington no longer than 4 weeks, unless circum-

further stamping for certain areas. Physical examination
and immunizations will naturally be competently handled.
2. It is requested that all executive arrangements be
handled by your office, although my office will be glad to absorb
any routine aspects, such as typing of necessary forms, i'land
carrying, etc. This is not to imply a desire for special pri-
vilege; past performances have indicated that such a trip is more
adroitly manared at front office level. T am not exaggerating
the importance of this journey or romanticizing its intelligence
aspects when I say that unless the planning is meticulous and
expert, serious harm could be done to any given project, and
conceivably might

with which you have approached our medicc-operational liaison.
It is hoped that our efforts to provide excellent medical service
will be nurther demonstrated on this proposed survey.
