I am writing on behalf of Mr. A. B. Krongard, the CIA
Executive Director. Thank you for your letter of 14 April 2001
regarding Civil Air Transport (CAT) and Air America combat losses
in China and South East Asia and a possible recognition memorial.,
I am sorry it has taken so long to get back to you, but the issue
you raise of possible awards and official recognition for their
service, has caused us to re-examine our criteria for recognition
and verification procedures. Presently, the entire process is
under review. I can assure you that once we have completed our
review and established new guidelines, I will get back to you
regarding a possible memorial for these men. We all owe them a
debt of gratitude and a place of honor for their Cold War
sacrifices.
