NETWORKING IN LOGISTICS
Memories of the Office of Logistics' 8th Mid-Career Experience
The 8th OL Mid-Career Course began on
12 November 1989 epresenta-
fives from each of the OL career groups partici-
pating in the eight day event. The course is
designed to provide a networking experience for
logistics careerists and to broaden their view of
the opportunities available in Logistics. We, the
participants, came to the course with a wide
range of prior experience, in terms of education
or training, age and years of service with the
Agency, but all of us were eager to learn more
about each other and the Office of Logistics.

Our course coordinator, Chief,
Services Division, Facilities Management Group,
had arranged a full schedule of opportunities for
us to interact with OL senior management, a
variety of guest speakers, and most importantly,
with our fellow logisticians. During the week at
each of us presented an overview of the job
we do complete with vu-graphs, diagrams, pic-
tures, and tools of the trade. Everyone seemed to
feel good about his or her job and the message
that came through, loud and clear, was that each
person and every job in OL is important. Our
evening "fireside" chats with the speakers of the
day were both casual and candid. We heard an
entertaining and informative history of OL by
"Mr. Logistics" and listened to the
experiences of an Allied contractor on the Tiger
Team.
Other highlights were special demonstrations by
(what a blast!); and a new networking expe-
rience with our counterparts in the Office of
Installations and Logistics at the National Securi-
ty Agency. On our last day we met with the DDA
in his conference room and heard his views on
current projects and future trends of the Agency.

We all arrived
According to our course master
To share with peers our expertise
And network to be faster
At getting our jobs done for all
The Agency's components
We even took some coffee breaks
To enjoy the daily donuts!
The offsite trip on Tuesday night
In the middle of November
The crowded van, the switch of rides
something - I can't remember!
The speeches made by all of us
Were so interesting to hear
They all deserved the loud applause
And of course - a round of beer!
Remembering the bus trips
That were back to back
What time did you say we have to leave?
You really can't mean that!
The contrast of the field trips
Both topics and the weather
Tripping on wire and holding our ears
And rushing around together
To absorb all the sights there were to see
At each unique installation
And share the memorable experience
With much jubilation.
Our invited guests were well received
We learned a lot from them
The program was delightful
From beginning to the end.

The course concluded with a graduation ceremo-
ny and a cocktail party in the Executive Dining
Room. It was serious, happy, and a little bit crazy,
but we all agreed: The OL Mid-Career Course was
a great experience which provided an opportunity to
develop strong personal and professional ties that
will endure throughout the years and wherever our
careers take us. We wish to thank our
friend and capable leader, and everyone else who
made the 8th OL Mid-Career Course possible.
