elementary and four years-of gymnasium in Vilkavishkis.
2. In 1914 World. War I broke out and in early 1915, Antanas was evacuated to
Vilnyus. In July 1915 he was evacuated to Voronezh, USSR.
3. Antanas was put in a camp with other Lithuanians and his education continued.
*Jority of the school teachers in this camp were Lithuanians. There were
also two Soviet teachers who taught history of Russia.

4. In 1918 after World War I Antanas returned to Bubleliai. Be worked. on44.ferm for
about a year. In 1919 Antanas took a azimuth course in teiegraphy and
passed with high honors. Be was employed by the Lithuanian government as
a telegraph inspector in the town of Alytus.
5. in 1920 Antanas was arrested by the goverment. The authorities bad fount a
list of names of persons who were with the Communist underground and his name .
was on this list. However, be was not prosecuted, and the court released him
due to his youth. He was 17 years old. at the time.

that Antabas was one.. of the webers arrested. He was sentenced to 15 years
in prison.

In winter of 1938-39 Antanas was back in Kaunas and
in jail for Communist underground activities. This was the third time that
he had. been arrested since World War I. He was sentenced to eight years in
prison. :
When Lithuania was taken over by the Soviets in 1940 Antanas was freed and
he began Working toward his present high position.
Di 1940 Antanas bad, become the Director of Internal
Security for all of Lithuania. In the next few months many former friends
and neighbors of Datums were seized and shipped to the USSR as .slave labor,
including tiofessional people and persons who were with the Lithuanian 'govern-
meat before the Soviet occupation. /n his official position Antanas would
affix his signature to the deportation list.
19. Antanas Snieckus is about 5 ft 5 in tall, stocky build., broad shoulders, and
weighed 160 pounds. Be has dark brown eyes, dark brawn hair, a good posture,
and*. slightly ruddy complexion. At the age of 11 Antanas was permanently
scarred when be fell into a tub of hot water and scalded. his left thigh and
buttock. He writes right handed.
