(U) President Trump Visits HQS, Meet Officers, Thanks Everyone for Their Service
On Saturday, 21 January, newly sworn-in President Donald Trump visited Headquarters on his first full day on the job,
accompanied by Vice President Mike Pence, National Security Advisor Michael Flynn, and then-CIA Director nominee Mike
Pompeo (who at the time was awaiting Senate confirmation)." Agency senior leadership and staffers attended the event.
Acting Director Meroe Park greeted President Trump upon his arrival and provided him with an overview of CIA. The
president also received a counterterrorism briefing and met with senior leaders before addressing the workforce in the OHB
lobby.
Park opened the event in the lobby. "Today, we have the great privilege of hosting President
Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence at CIA Headquarters. Since our founding nearly
seven decades ago, CIA's relationship with the President has been essential to our nation's
strength and security, and Mr. President, I can assure you, in the years ahead, the CIA, along
with the rest of the Intelligence Community, will do everything we can to provide you with the
insights you need to protect our country, to advance American interests around the globe, and
to carry out your duties as President. I am confident you will find that the women and men who
comprise the Intelligence Community are dedicated public servants who bring incredible
expertise, professionalism, diversity, and integrity to the national security mission."

Vice President Pence followed, thanking ADCIA Park for her 27 years of service at CIA. "As you Park
can imagine, it's deeply humbling for my family and Ito find ourselves in this role," he said. "But
it's especially humbling for me to be before all of you today men and women of character, who
have sacrificed greatly and to stand before this hallowed wall, this Memorial Wall, where we remember 117 who paid the
ultimate sacrifice for our freedom."
"I've never met anyone with a greater heart [than President Trump] for those who every day, in diverse ways, protect the
people of this nation through their character and their service and their sacrifice," he continued, and introduced President
Trump.
President Trump took the stage and reiterated what Vice President Pence had said. "I want to say that there is nobody that

feels stronger about the Intelligence Community ana me ii man uonaia i rump. i nere s nobody. The wall behind me is
very, very special."
"We really appreciate what you've done in terms of showing us something very special," he noted. "And your whole group
these are really special, amazing people. Very, very few people could do the job you people do. And I want to just let you
know, I am so behind you. And I know maybe sometimes you haven't gotten the backing that you've wanted, and you're
going to get so much backing."
President Trump also praised Pompeo, calling him "extraordinary" and a "total star." "You're going to be getting a total gem.
He's a gem. You'll see. We have some great people going in [across the government]. But this one is something is going
to be very special, because this is one, if I had to name the most important, this would certainly be perhaps you know, in
certain ways, you could say my most important. I believe that this group is going to be one of the most important groups in
this country toward making us safe."
"I just wanted to really say that I love you, I respect you," the president said in closing. "There's nobody I respect more.
You're going to do a fantastic job."
A transcript of the president and vice president's remarks and a video of the entire event are available.
*Director Pompeo was sworn in on 23 January.
