MEMORIAL SERVICE IN HONOR OF LESLIANNE SHEDD
1. A memorial service in honor of Leslianne Shedd an Agency employee in Africa
Division, will be held Friday, 6 December 1996 at 1000 hours in the Headquarters
Auditorium. Ms. Shedd was killed on 23 November 1996 when her hijacked
Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed into the Indian Ocean.
2. All Agency employees are invited to attend this memorial service. Opening remarks
will be made by the Director of Central Intelligence.
3. Agency expressions of sympathy have been extended to the family.

HEADQUARTERS AUDITORIUM
DCI SCENARIO
You are scheduled to host a memorial service for Leslianne Shedd on Friday,
6 December, at 10:00 A.M. in the Headquarters Auditorium. Upon the arrival of the Shedd
family at Headquarters (approximately 9:45), they will be escorted to the DCI Conference
Room by Office of Protocol staff. Names of family members are provided on the attached
guest list. George and Tenet, Nora Slatkin, David Cohen,
will join you in greeting the family.
You will present the Exceptional Service MedaIIion toMr. and Mrs. Shedd in recognition of
Leslianne's service. At 9:55 you and your guests will depart the DCI Conference Room for
the auditorium. You will walk to the red elevators where two SPOs will be positioned to take
you to the first floor. You will go through the front lobby to the auditorium. The sequence of
the program is as follows:
09:45 The USMC String Quartet will play prelude music while guests arrive for the
service.
10:00 You will be seated in the second row, front center section of the auditorium,
next to Mr. and Mrs. Shedd. Mr. and Mrs. Tenet, Ms. Slatkin, and
additional family members will also be seated in the second row.
Mr. Cohen will proceed to the lectern and ask the audience to stand for
the presentation of colors by the Armed Forces Color Guard and to remain
standing for the "National Anthem" and an opening prayer.
Following the "National Anthem," the Color Guard and Marine Quartet will
depart the auditorium.

Following your remarks, you will return to your seat in the audience.
Mr. Cohen will step back to the lectern to introduce

The family will remain in the auditorium lobby to receive condolences from
Agency employees.
Note: Following "America the Beautiful", the lights will be dimmed and a picture of
Leslianne Shedd along with the Agency Seal, will be projected onto the
auditorium disks.
*The Exceptional Service Medallion is awarded for injury or death of Agency employees resulting from hazards of service in areas
outside the United States where there is internal strife, civil disturbance, or hostile action by armed forces or persons unfriendly
to the United States or in assignments outside the United States where they are called upon to face unusual and unavoidable
hazards due to geographical or other natural condition.
