Leslianne Shedd had been serving a highly successful tour in Ethiopia when she took
leave with several friends for a Thanksgiving holiday. Her plane was hijacked and
crashed into the Indian Ocean on 23 November 1996 after the assailants ignored
repeated warnings that the aircraft was running out of fuel. According to a survivor,
Leslianne spent her final moments comforting those around herone last act of
gallantry and kindness in the life of a truly outstanding young woman.
