Reference stated that 25-30 VC Battalions are staging in the Go Vap area and in the Ben Lu and Gan Giuoc areas of Long An Province to renew the offensive against Saigon. 3.3(h)(2) The Long An Provincial Battalion (the 506th Battalion) moved to a position about two miles south of the Saigon-Cholon 3.5(c) area on 2 February, a move of about 12 miles northeastward from its 3.3(h)(2) location the day before. The 261st Battalion, (DT 1 Regiment), which is believed to have been involved in the attacks on My Tho, has also moved in a northerly direction toward Saigon. It was last located on 2 February about five miles south of Tan An, capital of Long An Province. This position places the 261st Battalion about 25 miles south southwest of Saigon. 2. To the west of Saigon, the 7th NVA Division (101st, 165th and 141st Regiments) and the 88th NVA Regiment continue to pose a potential -threat to. the Saigon area. These forces, generally located around the Michelin- rubber plantation,, have not been identified in any recent actions according to available information. the 165th Rpgim.ent of the 7th Division had moved in a northwesterly 3.3(h)(2) direction between 25 January and 2 February.
