Makarioi Cracks Down on EOKA-B
'Archbishop Makarios has withdrawn ais offer
of amnesty to the remnants of General Grivas'
Greek Cypriot guerrilla organization (EOKA-B)
and ordered the police to arrest some 70 guerrillas
.still at large. Makarioss amnesty offer three
months ago to EOKA-B--now officially outlawed--had
not been accepted; in fact, there were recent indi-
cations that.BOKA-B had returned to guerrilla
activity on a small scale. The Archbishop obviously
believes that now is the time to try to eliminate
the pro-enosis organization, which is currently
involved in a leadership struggle. He was doing a
good job against EOKA-B while Grivas was still alive
and should be more successful now that the movement
has been weakened by the death of the leader.
