Turkish concern over Greece--Erkin, Secretary General of the Turkish Foreign Office, following receipt of reports from Edirne (Adrianople) of Increased Communist activity in Thrace; has expressed to US Ambassa- dor Wilson his concern over the Greek situation. EUROPE 2. ITALY: Critical wheat shortage�Premier De Gasper' has told US Charge Rome that, unless 240,000 tons of wheat can be received from the US by 15 January, bread rations must be reduced within the next few days as a precautionary measure. De Gasperi stressed that such a reduction would lead to "serious political consequences." 3. POLAND: Attitude toward US Embassy-US Charge Warsaw comments that the coiiflnued unfriendliness of the Polish Government suggests that "the time may be approaching when it would suit this regime" to have, the US curtail its activities in Poland or cease them entirely. NEAR EAST-AFRICA , 4. INDIA: Assembly to be convened--US Military Liaison Officer New Delhi reports that the Viceroy issued invitations to convene the Constitutional Assembly on 9 December, after Congress Party members had threatened to resign unless this step were taken. FAR EAST 5. CHINA: Soviets and Communists withdraw m.Da e --Commander US Seventh Fleet reports as "confirmed" that no Chinese Communist forces remain in the Dairen area and that all but 1,000 of the Soviet forces have moved "elsewhere."
