To Whom It May Concern:
Jam a researcher working on a biography on J. Edgar Hoover and am looking for a memo dated 7/7/41
written by author Ian Fleming (but likely signed by John H. Godfrey, director of British Naval
Intelligence). The memo records Fleming's observations about J. Edgar Hoover when Fleming was
stationed in Washington as a British naval intelligence officer before Pearl harbor.
I looked through the Thomas Troy research collection at the National Archives in College Park in hopes
that it would turn up there, but to no avail. I know from the notes to Mark Riebling's 1994 book Wedge
The Secret War Between the FBI and CIA that there's definitely a copy in London, but am hoping to
avoid the expense of an international trip. Is it possible that there's a copy in the CIA records here?
Sincerely,
Jay Winston Driskell
