[FBIS Transcribed Excerpt] Lawyer expresses growing concern for Australian held at Guantanamo Bay
Excerpt from report by Radio Australia on 24 May The lawyer for alleged Australian Taleban fighter,
David Hicks, says he is increasingly concerned about his client being denied legal representation.
Mr Hicks and Sydney man, Mamdouh Habib, have been interviewed by officers of the Australian Federal
Police and the security service, ASIO [Australian Security Intelligence Organization], at Guantanamo
Bay in Cuba. Adelaide lawyer Stephen Kenny says Mr Hicks has been told that he would get back to
Australia sooner if he revealed everything he knows.
[Kenny] That is clearly an improper thing for people to be asking when they are interviewing him in these
circumstances and we are extremely concerned about it. He has been held in a cage now for five months
and he is being interviewed in circumstances we say are quite inappropriate.[End of recording]...
