Syria: A Syrian opposition group claimed that 220 people, mostly civilians, were killed
yesterday in Tremseh, a village northwest of the city of Hamah, The
oppositionists said the village was bombarded by helicopter gunships and tanks, and that
government militia conducted summary executions of local residents.
Oppositionists claim that the overall death toll across the country yesterday was 287, the largest
daily toll since the conflict began.
President Bashar al-Asad nominated Minister of State for National Reconciliation
Ali Haydar to negotiate with oppositionists on behalf of the regime,
Oppositipnists, however, are refusing to negotiate with Havdar because they believe his political
party does not differ from the ruling Ba'th party
