The Europeans, however, seem to want to stop short of irritating Argentina to a degree that would damage satisfactory relations in such areas as trade. The French, wanting to take some action in retaliation for the disappearance of two French nuns, stopped short of breaking all military relations but with- drew two positions in the French Army War College tra- ditionally reserved for Argentine Army officers.
