The function of the Subversives Department was to
produce intelligence on that topic, including the
collection of information on subversive organizatiOns,
their members, plans, activities, plus analysis and neu:
tralization of their .activities, and the proposing (but
not implementing) ,of psychological warfare activities
directed against such organizations. It did not include
executive action (arrests and interrogations) against
target organizations or individuals. During the early
and mid-1970s, the Subversives Department focused
principally on the Montoneros. It was believed to be
staffed by about 10 officers and an unknown number
of enlisted personnel and civilians.
