MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: KRONTHAL, James Speyer
(b)(3)
1. On 8 June 1989, I spoke with Mary Jackson, DC Metro
Police, Administrative Files Section (727-4183). Ms Jackson was
given information on the Subject's case and attempted to locate
case file.
2. Ms Jackson stated that the file had been destroyed.
Because DC pays for space in the National Records Center (NRC) in
Suitland, MD, the DC Police have a special order (Special Order
79-80 Records Detention Schedule 2-J, Second Edition) by which
files are destroyed after a certain periods of time. In the case
of Homicide files, they are retained for seven years at DC Police
Headquarters and 20 years at NRC. Suicide reports are retained at
DC Police Hg for three years and for seven years in NRC. Jackson
also said all files in separate holdings at DC Police Hq previous
to 1954 had been destroyed.

3. Officer Gary Brashears (727-4368), who seems to be the
authority on the DC records archives, is on Military Le Ve for the
next two weeks, but the writer will contact him to con4irm the
information received from Jackson.
