Dear Mr. Kopytoff:
This is a final response to your 20 February 2007 Freedom of Information Act
(FOIA) request for records pertaining to:
All documents related to a contract the CIA awarded to Google Inc. in Sept.
2004 for some of the company's technology. You state that you "would like all
written communications about the technology�two Google Search
Appliances�before and after the contract was signed." The period [you]
want covered is from Jan. 1, 2004 to the present.
We processed your request in accordance with the FOIA, 5 U.S.C. � 552, as amended, and
the CIA Information Act, 50 U.S.C. � 431, as amended. Our processing included a search
for records as described in our 22 March 2007 acceptance letter existing through the date
of that letter.
We completed a thorough search for records responsive to your request and located
21 documents, totaling 109 pages, which can be released in segregable form with deletions
made on the basis of FOIA exemptions (b)(3), (b)(4), and (b)(6). As a requester in the
"news media" fee category you are entitled to the first 100 pages free of charge. Since the
remaining fees are minimal, and as an act of administrative discretion, there will be no
charge for processing your request.
CIA Information and Privacy Coordinator Delores M. Nelson made this decision,
which you may appeal to the Agency Release Panel, in my care, within 45 days from the
date of this letter. You may include any additional information supporting your position or
explaining why you think our initial decision is wrong.
