2. As of 0630 on 12 S eptember 2012, a U.S. facility in
Benghazi, Libya, had been under heavy fire since approximately 0430,
to include the use of mortars and rocket propelled grenades (RPG).
The Libyan Prime Minister's Office had ordered military

reinforcements to assist with defending the U.S. facility. There
were reports the attackers had MANPADS (NFI). (CIA officers.)
3. The mortar fire had been launched from a racetrack located
in close proximity of the U.S. facility. Immediate preparations for
evacuation of U.S. personnel had commenced. Gun trucks had set up in
a defensive posture around the U.S. facility to assist with the
evacuation. Comment: It was not known if the gun
trucks belong to Libyan militias or the Libyan military.) (CIA
