Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06146297 Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D.C. 20505 15 January 2014 Mr. Jason Leopold Reference: F-2014-00611 Dear Mr. Leopold: This is a final response to your 31 December 2013 Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, received in the office of the Information and Privacy Coordinator on 14 January 2014, for disclosure of any and all records that were prepared, received, transmitted, collected and/or maintained by the CIA mentioning or referring to the deceased person Jang Sung-taek (also spelled Jang Sung-Taek Chang, Jang Seong- taek, Chang Songfaek, or Song-faek). We cannot accept your FOIA request in its current form because it would require the Agency to perform an unreasonably burdensome search. The FOIA requires requesters to "reasonably describe" the information they seek so that professional employees familiar with the subject matter can locate responsive information with a reasonable amount of effort. Commonly this equates to a requirement that the documents must be locatable through the indexing of our various systems. Extremely broad or vague requests or requests requiring research do not satisfy this requirement. Therefore, we must decline to process such requests. Sincerely, Michele Meeks Information and Privacy Coordinator Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06146297 Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06146297 (b)(3) (b)(6) IMS/IRRG/PIPal 14 January 2014 Distribution: Orig - Adse 1 - PIPD/F-2014-00611 CAN (Too Broad) (b)(3) (b)(6) F 00611 Leopold CAN Approved for Release: 2021/12/06 C06146297
