MEMORANDUM FOR THE DIEECTOR:
1. This memorandum is for information only:
2. Mark Childs called at 2:55 p.m. today. He asked for another copy of
your San Francisco speech. He said he had been told that you really missed
the boat on Zhukhov. I told him he had better re-read the speech carefully
because the situation as you pictured it on September 19, is one that I think
has.been confirmed by He said he would give it a careful reading.
3. He joked about Joe Alsop's column which also gave great delight to Scotty
Reston. The Alsops are not the most popular columnists in Washington. If you
have the time it might be worthwhile to give Mark a call so that he won't go
off at a tangent just to make a column.
