Overview of IRR Activities Last Week: (UtherI4344) OIM Declassification Center (U//244449) ODC and USAF Work Together to Improve 25-Year Declassification Process (U/haritTf)) The US Air Force (USAF) agreed to assist the OIM Declassification Center (ODC) with its 25-year automatic declassification effort. The agreement was reached in a 5 April meeting between representatives from ODC and their counterparts at the US Air Force's Office of Information Security (01S). As a result of the meeting, the USAF agreed to send a "data call" memorandum to all USAF commands requesting information on any classified material in their possession that may contain CIA equities. Also, the USAF will modify some of its redaction guidelines to make them consistent with CIA procedures. The two organizations also agreed to maintain an open dialogue on declassification issues. (UHAfun). From the Archives: DCI Dulles in 1953, "I Don't Want Politics in the Agency" (UllAitiej In 1953, DCI Allen Dulles addressed the Agency Orientation Course. The notes from the course were recently reviewed by the DCI team at the OIM Declassification Center. During the question-and-answer portion, the DCI fielded a question from the audience, "In view of the fact that most well-known Republicans are known for their rather conservative viewpoints relative to world affairs, in your opinion will these conservative leanings have any effect upon our estimating function?" Mr. Dulles responded, "If we allow ourselves to be influenced in our estimates by political or other considerations such as right-wing or left-wing tendencies, then we are failing in our work. Politics plays no role in this Agency. Anybody that wants to get into politics actively or to have any political activity had better leave, right away quick, because I won't tolerate that; I won't allow myself to do it; I won't allow anybody else to do it while in the Agency. Obviously, you can exercise your right to vote, but I don't want politics coming into this Agency. We're going to keep this Agency out of politics, as far as I'm concerned, and we're going to keep politics out of our estimating."
