Overview of IRR Activities Last Week: (U//M12144) CIA Declassification Center (U//7MM CDC Releases 2.2 Million Pages at NARA (WhirtlIS) The CIA Declassification Center (CDC) this week released some 2.2 million pages to the public at the National Archives in College Park, Maryland as part of its implementation of the automatic declassification provision of Executive Order 12958. The records, which are in electronic format, are contained in the CIA Records SEarch Tool (CREST) in the Archives library and are available to all researchers. They are fully text-searchable. This weeks' release makes up the electronic portion of CDC's 2001 released records. The release, scheduled for late September 2001, was delayed by the events of 9/11 and subsequent checks to ensure that current homeland securities sensitivities including weapons of mass destruction were thoroughly addressed in these newly released documents, With this release, we now have over 5 million pages of CIA records available to the public on the CREST System at College Park. (U//Mtle.) The 2.2 million pages consists of records dated from 1951 to 1978 with quantities about equally distributed over those years. Documents released include both CIA products and business records from all CIA directorates and MSO areas. DCI area records released include Policy Files, History Staff, and Subject files. From the Directorate of Intelligence researchers will find 0/DDI policy files, historical files, policy files, and finished intelligence collections. Directorate of Science and Technology records released in this collection include collection programs mission files, contract and procurement files, history files and subject files.
