(U//AfRAe) CDC Delivers CDs to Presidential Libraries with FY 2001 Release
(UHAltift During the week of 4 Nov 2001, representatives from the CIA Declassification Center (CDC) delivered
CDs containing material reviewed by CDC in FY 2001 under the Remote Archives Capture (RAC) program to three
Presidential libraries -- Johnson in Austin, Texas; Eisenhower in Abilene, Kansas; and Kennedy in Boston,
Massachusetts. The Johnson Library received seven CDs containing 7,353 documents; Eisenhower Library received

(U/httbfkY CDC Team Surveys NDU Holdings of CIA Material
(U//71dile), On 19 November 2001, a team from the CIA Declassification Center (CDC) conducted a survey of the
holdings of the National Defense University (NDU) library at Ft. McNair in Washington, DC. The team was looking
for material with CIA equities that must be reviewed in accordance with the automatic declassification provisions of
EO 12958. The team discovered that the NDU Library holds approximately 110 linear feet of CIA publications,
including Special National Intelligence Estimates (SNIEs), National Intelligence Estimates (NIEs), and National
Intelligence Surveys (NISs), plus many other CIA-letterhead documents. Additionally, Agency material was found
in the Library's holdings of personal papers, including those of General Maxwell Taylor and General Lyman
Lemnitzer, both former Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and General Andrew Goodpaster, a former staff
secretary in the White House.
(U/Larte4+) From the Archives: The Presidential Briefing Process in 1980
(UHAItre)CIA's process for briefing the President was the subject of a May 1980 memorandum that was recently
reviewed by the DCI team at the CIA Declassification Center. In the memo, the Presidential Briefing Coordinator
noted that the briefings would continue to be biweekly and that "topics for briefings will continue to come from a
variety of sources:
 DCI initiative
Suggestions by NIO's (National Intelligence Officers) ...
Ideas that emerge from DCI meetings...
 Current events/crises
Outgrowth of subjects being developed for other purposes ...

Subjects identified as key items of White House interest (e.g. prior to Presidential trips)"
The Coordinator stated that normally two "pre-briefs" would be held. The first pre-brief would be to generate and
screen ideas. Those ideas would generate recommended topics, which would be submitted to DCI Stansfield Turner
for his consideration. The second pre-brief would include the DCI's decisions from the first pre-brief to "focus the
discussion." The Coordinator also noted that "the Director enjoys the opportunity afforded by the pre-briefs to meet
with the NI0s/analysts and benefit from their individual views on those subjects weighing either on his mind or on
theirs."
This is a record.
