EL SALVADOR: Military Operations
//The Army is concluding operations northeast of San Salvador
and is moving against insurgents in Morazan Department
there was heavy
fighting during the first stage of the offensive in the Suchitoto area,
largely involving the US-trained Atlacatl Battalion supported by
airstrikes. So far, 63 guerrillas have been killed and 95 prisoners are
requesting amnesty, as compared with government losses of 64 killed
or wounded. In Morazan, two other Army battalions reportedly have
begun an operation south of the Torola River.
