MEMORANDUM FOR: Acting National Intelligence Officer for USSR-EE
FROM: Director of Central Intelligence
SUBJECT: Poland
I understand you are doing an update on the Polish situation.
Here are some materials I gathered to discuss Poland at the NSC meeting
two weeks ago in California. We never got to it in any detail. I
thought this might be useful in the project you have under way. I was
particularly interested in the report
in the Polish Economy)
What
interested me most was the description of the inherent sluggishness
of the Polish economy and the heavy commitment of people and redundant
employment. Also, I would suggest that in your current project you
update and reassess the alternatives and factors to be considered in
implementing them as laid out in my one-page memorandum to the President
dated 15 July. In doing that, the pages in the attachments which my
one-page memorandum cites may be helpful.
