Argentina
President Bignone's hold on power remains tenuous, but he still is believed
to have at least an even chance of staying in power. Recent changes in the
military junta have strengthened Bignone's nosition somewhat, but will bring
growing pressure on Army Commander Nicolaides to purge his command of those involved
in the Falklands conflict.

Over the next few months, demands for an investigation of past government
nctions with regard to "disanpeared" peonle--a particularly servitive issue in
the military--and for more expansive economic nolicies will mount. If the govern-
ment mishandles these issues, strikes and general social unrest c^u1d increase
significantly.
