FRANCE: MRP MiniEter expects four-party Government--
According to Caffery, Andre Colin, MRP Minister of State, considers
the premiership will probably have to be offered to the Commu-
rists as the largest party, but believes that Thorez cannot successfully
form a Government. He asserts that the MRP would insist, as a con-
dition to participation, that the present "sovietization" of France by
the Minister of Industrial Production must cease,. He anticipates that,
rft-ir Thorez' failure, the MRP would form a Cabinet including Commu-
ists Socialists, and Radical Socialists,

5. IRAN: US ages to furnish military material--Acheson has informed
US Embassy Tehran that the State Department tentatively agrees to
furnish to Iran,on request, reasonable amounts of "non-aggression
military material" for the purpose of maintaining internal security.
Combat items are not to exceed 10 million dollars in value.
FAR EAST
6 , CHINA: Chinese not planni to take Dairen�Assistant US Military
Attache Mukden reports a statement y neral Tu LI-ruing, Chinese
Commander in Chief in the Northeast, to the effect that the Chinese
Army is not planning to take Dairen. General Tu added "as an aside"
that the Chinese Army would probably not see Dairen "until the next
war."
THE AMERICAS
7. COLOMBIA: Continued .t.a.tion anticipated despite strike settlement--
Wiley reports that the petroleum workers strike has been settled on
terms manifestly unfavorable to Tropical. President Ospina, who had
feared an imminent revolutionary disturbance (see Daily Summary of
14 November, item 11) is greatly relieved. Wiley, however, anticipates
further agitation, citing (a) evidence that the head of the petroleum
-workers' union has appealed to "all labor" to demand nationalization
of the petroleum industry; and (b) indications that the union has received
foreign financial support and inspiration.
