1. The Accion Guiteras Revolucxonaria (AGR), an anti-Comlunist group formed
in Coke in 1935, has decided to take action against Ociauniam in labor
into its ovn hands by the formation of a body of about one thousand
true militants, five hundred of wham will carry firearms. According to
AGR spokesman Antonio B. Bayer and Jesus Gonzalez Cartes, the organization
has been "forced" to take these measures because of the apathy of Labor
Minister Francisco Aguirre and Secretary General Angel Cofino of the
Confederacion de Trabajadores de Cite& (CTC) toward Communist labor
activity, and also because the fictional Police, since the elevation of
General Hernandez Hardo to the top position, cannot be relied upon to
prosecute Communists.
2. The plan of the AGR is to strike at one specific spot where Communists
are in power and clean it out by force. They will then strike at some
widely separated point This will serve to distract public attention
and will not make the effort appear to be centrally directed.
3. The AOR claims to have 17,000 followers. It is named in honor of
Antonio Guiteras, and is the outgrowth of a group founded by him in
1934 called Joven Cuba, whose object was to promote respect for honest
government by committing acts of violence against corrupt officials.
The AC R came to be anti-United States as well as anti-Cnmmunist in
character, since it claimed that these two elements had been jointly
responsible for placing and maintaining President Fulgencio Batista
in power.
