Comment: The Soviet Union has been steadily developing the military and economic potential of the Chukotsk area since the war. During April of this year an air shuttle operation involving an unprecedented number of aircraft occurred along this route with the apparent destination of Povarnya Krestik. The present activity, and the earlier airlift, may be connected with a unit move into the Chukotsk area or support of some unidentified economic activity in the area.
