1. With internal security as the obvious objective, Chinese Communist authorities
in Peiping are now carrying on the registration of foreign nationals in that
city. Registration is conducted during a 40-minute private interview with
the police.
2. The interview of Dr. Leo Eloesser� head of the North China United Nations
International Childrenls Emergency Fund (UNICEF), was unusually lengthy.
The police showed a great deal of interest in his trip to the USSR, although
this was from a suspicious rather than a friendly viewpoint. Dr. Eloesser
again predicts that UNICEF will cease activities because it is not wanted
by the Chinese Communists who persist with their obstruction tactics.*
