positions are scheduled to complete their tours of duty this
summer.
In order to permit the recruitment of appropriately
qualified personnel s been necessary to determine at this
time the program level which will be supported by the Department
for fiscal year 1955. Five senior attache positions together
with adequate clerical and travel fund support shall be provided.
It is presently centamplated that science attaches Will be
assigned at London, Paris, Bonn, Stockholm and Tokyo. Two
attache end two supporting clerical positions are included in
the EUR Salaries and Expenses appropriation request and one
attache and one supporting clerical position are included in
the GOA request now pending before the Congress. The Office
of Budget and Reports will fund the additional positions by
appropriate reprogramming action. To the extent that funds may
become available, continuing consideration shall be given to the
desirability of assigning junior officers to support the reporting
responsibilities of the science attaches.
