MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Briefing of Senate Armed Services Committee Re
Watergate Matter.
1. This morning the Director and Messrs. Houston, OGC;
Osborn, D/S; and Gaynor, OS; appeared before the full Senate Armed
Services Committee on questions relating to the Watergate matter.
The meeting lasted from about 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. No technical
sweep of the room 212 Russell Office Building was conducted nor was
the room kept under technical monitoring. Discussions on the record
were at the Secret level, but highly sensitive matters were discussed
off-the-record.

4. The hearing dealt primarily with the Agency's handling of
a series of unsigned notes and letters believed to have come from James
McCord. Various other aspects of the Watergate question were touched
upon and are fully reflected in the transcript.
5. Followup items:
a. The Office of Security is to provide the Committee
with its records of any indirect contact with James McCord
since his arrest.
