MEMORANDUM FOR; Executive Secretary, CIA Management Committee
SUBJECT : Possible Additional Support to Howard Hunt
I. We have reported an out-of-channels q est by Howard
Hunt in December 1971 for a name trace on a Costa Rican. This
was answered through channels by reporting the results to Peter
Jessup, the Agency's representative with the NSC Staff. Jessup
has now reported in a memorandum dated 31 May 1973, which you
saw on 5 June, that there were a number of name traces requested
by Hunt.
2. We have interviewed Jessup, and his successor, Rob Roy
Ratliffe, as well as Jim Flannery, then WH Division's deputy chief.
Jessup can recall only that Hunt's request was for more than one
name, but he cannot recall how many. He places the time as gen-
erally in the last two months of 1971 or the first month of 1972. His
files in EOB disclose nothing on the point and the files of WH Division
record no other such transactions. Neither Jim Flannery, nor X,
can recall any other such requests, although we both recall handling
the one on the costa Rican.
3. It is doubtful that we can produce further information on
this question. I am of the opinion that there was a request for only
the one name trace, but we must accept the possibility that there
were others.
