Approved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01482044 E'1,10111U0D6 FOR: TO - FROM: SUBJECT: 9 April 1974 Watergate/E. Howard Hunt 1. On the evening of 8 April Mr. E. Howard Hunt telephoned me for a three quarters of an hour social chat. Inasmuch as there has been desultory social contact with him since my last memorandum to you on this subject, and inasmuch as my eldest son has spent several days during this time working on the subject's grounds to prepare the Potomac estate for sale, I feel it necessary to update my reporting. 2. His volume of memoirs has reached a length of approximately 350 pages, but NY. Hunt expects to have a total of between 500 and 600 pages for publication. He admits not having leavened the work with light touches of humor, so I gather it will be heavy with outraged self-justification. During the latter part of this month he will give a speech in Omaha, Nebraska, spelling out his reactions to, and thoughts on, his prison experiences. The conservative editorialist, Mr. William F. Buckley, godfather to three of Mr. Hunt's children, has decided against publishing any or all of the speech in his regular column on the grounds that the speech is "replete with cliches". 3. During the call I noted two suspicious incidents of unusual sound patterns on the wire, from which I gather that MY. Hunt's unlisted telephone is tapped. The following, however, was not obtained by phone, but by my son during conversations with his employer in the course of his work on Mr. Hunt's grounds. The latter told my son that in the recent Hunt family trip to Miami, Florida, they stayed in the same hotel as the Presidential entourage, and that he met and talked to both General Haig and Mr. Ronald Ziegler. 4. Please advMii yt;Tu;rishiAtefto address further memoranda to you, or to new referent on this matter in light of recent DDO instructions on Watergate Agency file review. pproved for Release: 2017/01/18 C01482044
