MEMORANDUM FOR THE RECORD
SUBJECT: Letter to DCI Colby from Ambassador Helms Transmitting
A QuQi-.-y- from a Mr. Harold H. Dorland
 1. Mr. Dorland queried Ambassador Helms about a meeting
on 22 November 1963 between E. Howard Hunt, former. Executive
Director-Comptroller Lyman Kirkpatrick and Helms concerning, said
Dorland, a second invasion of Cuba.
2. Officials of the Western Hemisphere Division were unable
to shed any light on such a meeting. They did suggest the names of
four persons who might be knowledgeable. Of these.one, Desmond
Fitzgerald, is deceased; another, Bruce Cheever, is retired and
living in Phoenix, Arizona. The other two, and .
have been interviewed and not only have no knowledge
of any such meeting but doubt that it ever occurred.
3. Walter Pforzheimer was next contacted to see if such
a meeting was referred to by E. Howard Hunt in his book on the
Bay of Pigs, "Give us this day." Walter checked his records and
index and reported that no such meeting was cited in Hunt's book.
4. A check was made of M. Kirkpatrick's diary for the
cited date (plus a week on each side of it) with negative results.
A search of Security indices and Agency records was conducted
and revealed that there had been previous correspondence between
Mr. Dorland and the Agency (copies attached). It appears the
Director has at least two options regarding this matter. He can
ignore it since it did not initially come to Min, or he can have
Thuermer's office answer it as was done before, explaining that
the letter was forwarded to CIA by Ambassador Helms. The first
option would seem to be preferable as replies to Mr. Dorland only
seem to inspire further correspondence.

June 17, 1974
Mr. William E. Colby
Director of Central Intelligence
Dear Bill:
7e:
This will acknowledge your note of 11 June which
enclosed the one from Peter Deuel. You are most '
thoughtful to send his letter along and to write
as you did. I deeply appreciate it.
I enclose a letter which I received in the mail
today and which I have no intention of answering.
I send it to you, because I have no idea what kind
of a fishing expedition this is or what event gives
rise to it. Mr. Dorland is not known to me.
It would be just great if you could pay us a visit
out here. It would be time well spent, and I for
one would be delighted to see you and have a chance
for a good, old-fashioned chat.
Cynthia joins in warmest greetings to Barbara and
you.
With warm regards,
Cordially,
Richard Helms
