Overview of IRR Activities Last Week: (U/711:10) Publications Review Board (U/a1110) Board Receives Death Threat (U//M140) The Publications Review Board received a generic death threat this week. The letter, addressed to the Board at CIA, Washington, DC 20505 and sent from Puerto Rico in November 2001, stated that with Allah's help "we" would all be killed. � The Executive Secretary turned the letter over to Security. (UHALLIC1) Board Receives More than 3000 Pages in April (UHAIU0) For the second consecutive month, the Publications Review Board received over 3000 pages for CONFIDENTIAL Approved for Release: 2019/03/27 C01247681 Approved for Release: 2019/03/27 C01247681 CONF+BeITITAL� (b)(3) prepublication review -- despite the difficulties the Board has experienced in receiving mail. In April 2002 authors submitted 3,038 pages and 31 manuscripts. These totals compare with 1,714 pages and 22 manuscripts the Board received in April 2001. In the unlikely event the Board maintains this pace, it will exceed the 26,072 pages it received in Fiscal Year 2001. � For the fiscal year to date, the Board has received 13,784 pages and 188 manuscripts. At the same r -- April 2001 -- the Board had received 9,344 pages and 158 manuscripts. (UHA4130) FOIA, PA & EO Requests (UHAL140) Requester Pays $50, Receives No Documents (U/Mr14510.) A requester from New Jersey asked for documents under the FOIA involving specific activities of the DCI in 1956. The CIA informed the requester that a search for responsive documents would be done if he committed to pay search and copying fees. He was also informed that he "... will be charged even if our search results are negative or if it is determined that no information is releaseable under the FOIA." The requester agreed to pay fees. � The FOIA case manager informed the requester that a search of CIA records uncovered no responsive documents. The requester was sent a bill for $50, which he paid. (U//ATV) British Company Requests Records on London Reporter Recently Held Captive in Afghanistan (U/tAit10) FOIA Centre Ltd in London requested information on Yvonne Ridley, the Sunday Express of London reporter who was held captive recently by the Taliban in Afghanistan. FOIA Centre Ltd indicates it is an "information and data specialist," and its media division "acts for newspapers and other media outlets."
