This letter is a request for records under the Freedom of Information
The records I am requesting are:
1. Any information you have, including but not limited to
documents, records, studies, reports, letters, and all information
in your possession in any way relating to the following: the
project, apparently undertaken during the 1960s but I am not
sure about the date, in which cats were implanted with
eavesdropping devices. I underitand that the project was
commonly referred to as "acoustic kitty." Any information in
your possession concerning any aspects of any projects
involving implanting eavesdropping devices in cats or dogs;
and the testing of those animals; and the field experiments or
field testing when those animals were actually taken outside
CIA headquarters; and any information about the laboratory
experiments themselves and the tests that were done on such
animals and the procedures that were done on them in
implanting those devices; any laboratory notes or records
involving the procedures employed in implanting those devices;
and any evaluations or memoranda in which the projects
involving cats and dogs to which I have referred were
evaluated, explained or in any way referred to.
2. I am also requesting all of the same information from the same
sources and including all of the same types of information and
documents which I detailed in paragraph number one as any of
that information relates to the use of birds, including hawks_ and
crows, to carry cameras or any other way be useful in

eavesdropping or spying. This request also includes
mechanical birds. I understand that uses were made of birds in
the 1960s and later. I don't have any more definite information
as to dates.
