Mr. Guy Grundman
Reference: F-2002-01079
Dear Mr. Grundman:
This is in response to your 22 May 2002 letter to the office of Senator
John Warner, which was forwarded to the CIA's Office of Congressional Affairs
and, ultimately, to the office of the Information and Privacy Coordinator for
response. Requests such as yours are considered under the provisions of the
Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Specifically, you have requested:
the identities of, and contact information for, the
current directors of CIA's Centers for
Counterterrorism, Nonproliferation, and Weapons
Intelligence, Nonproliferation and Arms Control.
For identification purposes your request has been assigned the number
referenced above.
After careful consideration, we have determined that the information
you are asking for must be denied to you, since it is properly classified under
the provisions of Executive Order 12958. Information of this nature, i.e. "the
organization, functions, names, official titles, salaries, or numbers of personnel
employed by the Agency," is specifically and statutorily exempt from disclosure
in accordance with Section 6 of the CIA Act of 1949. Exemptions (b)(1) and
(b)(3) of the FOIA apply. An explanation of these exemptions is enclosed.

We trust you can appreciate the necessity for an intelligence
organization to protect such information. The CIA official responsible for this
determination is Kathryn I. Dyer, Information and Privacy Coordinator. You
may appeal this decision by addressing your appeal to the Agency Release
Panel, in my care, within 45 days from the date of this letter. Should you
choose to do this, please explain the basis of your appeal.
We regret we are unable to assist you in this matter.
Sincerely,
Kathryn I. Dyer
Information and Privacy Coordinator
