1. While Company 3, VC Independent Battalion 6, received military training in
BA THU area, (XT 248025) CAMBODIA, from 2-3 January 1968 until 28 January,
many other VC and Vietnamese civilians were also located in BA THU. (Field
Comment: Source did not remember the number of Vietnamese military and civilian
personnel in the area, nor cbuld he furnish the names of their units or
organizations.) The other military personnel were also undergoing military
training while the civilians were harvesting rice. No Cambodian civilians were
observed in the area, but one of their forts could be seen in the distance.
Company 3 was the only unit which left the BA THU area for SAIGON-CHOLON at the
end of January. (Field Comment: Source does not know the present disposition
of the other VC units which were trained in BA THU.)
2. ComPany. 3, cohsisting of about 40 soldiers, infiltrated Saigon in advance of
Battalion 6, consisting of about 100 men. The infiltrators carried their weapons
with them; some wore uniforms, others did not. At approximately 2000 hours on
the 30th the unit reached Hamlet 4 or 5 of TAN NHAT DISTRICT where the soldiers
picked up additional weapons. (Field Comment: Source arrived in SAIGON with
Battalion 6 at approximately 0300 hours 31 January. and loined Company 1
immediately.

Company,3 was not given its objective in SAIGON until it reached Hamlet 4 or 5
td-TAN'NHAT District. At that time the soldiers were told that they' were going
to liberate SAIGON; the unit was not advised of any other actions taking place
in the country.
