� MEMORANDUM
SUBJECT : Eugenio R. Martinez
.Mr. Martinez, born 8 July 1922 in Pinar del Rio., Cuba, is
� a naturalized U.S. citizen. He was recruited by CIA in 1961 to
� engage in a maritime activity against the Castro regime; more
specifically to participate in infiltration operations to provide
emergency exfiltration from Cuba of persons of interest to the
Agency. In this connection Mr. Martinez was a principal Agent
for one of.the sites in the Florida Keys which housed personnel,
vessels; vehicles and equipment'used for these operations. As
Captain of a vessel which carried a crew of six, he also engaged
in. a number of hazardous missions to accomplish exfiltrations.
With a change in operational policy, these missiqns were no
longer required, and in the mid 1960's the project under,which
Mr. Martinez operated was terminated. At that time, he was
being paid $8,100 per year. Having been removed from normal
civilian pursuits because of his Agency activities, Mr. Martinez
was placed on a part-time retainer of $100 per month, after the
project was terminated to provide an opportunity for him to once
again get into the mainstream of Civilian life. During this
. period he provided occasional reports of interest to CIA. Mr.
Martinez was terminated in absentia on 17 June 1972.

Mr. Martinez was a loyal and reliable employee during hin
years of association with the Agency and-.conducted many, hazardous
infiltration and exfiltration missions, often under adverse con-
ditions, willingly endangering his own life for the cause of the
missions in which he strongly believed.
