Dear Mr. Mokoena:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your 13 December 1990
letter pertaining to your 30 September 1987 Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) request for records pertaining to the
following:
"(a) the Soviet Union and Cuban intervention in Angola
from 1974 to date;"
"(b) the United States government activities and
response to Soviet and Cuban intervention in Angola from
1974 to date;" and
"(c) the South African government intervention in
Angola from 1974 to date."
Based upon the additional information provided in your
13 December letter, we have determined that you are eligible
for categorization as "representative of the news media." You
have also agreed to pay copying costs associated with this
request.
Accordingly, we have accepted your request which will be
processed in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act,
5 U.S.C. 552, as amended, and the CIA Information Act,
50 U.S.C. 431. Our search will be for documents in existence
as of and through the date of this acceptance letter.
The heavy volume of FOIA requests received by the Agency has
created delays in processing. Since we cannot respond within
the 10 working days stipulated by the Act, you have the right to
consider this as a denial and may appeal to the CIA Information
Review Committee. It would seem more reasonable, however, to

hame us continue processing your request and respond as soon as
we can. You can appeal any denial of records at that time.
Unless we hear from you otherwise, we will assume that you
