CIA MSTORICAL OM rnSDhM I 421-78 MEMORANDUM FOR: Director of Central Intelligence VIA FROM SUBJECT Deputy Director for Operations Deputy Director of Central Intelligence David H. Blee Chief, Counterintelligence Staff Latest Interview of Golitsyn by the HSCA DD/0'./.t 1. Soviet defector Anatoliy Mikhaylovich Golitsyn was interviewed by the staff of the House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) on 4 and 19 May 1978. On 5 October 1978 a written request was received from Mr. G. Robert Blakey, Chief Counsel and Director of the HSCA, to interview Mr. Golitsyn again "with respect to any knowledge he might have regarding a possible connection between the Soviet KGB and the assassination of the President of the United States in 1963." 2. In response to this request Mr. Golitsyn was brought from his residence in another state and made available for interview on the morning of 17 October 1978. This interview was conducted by Mr. Kenneth Klein and lasted only some 20 minutes. Following the interview Mr. Golitsyn voluntarily reported-to an officer of this Staff that aside from a few additional questions concerning his previous testimony relating to a 1960 KGB contingency plan for time of war, Mr. Klein's main interest appeared to be to establish whether Mr. Golitsyn had, in any way, been "punished" by the Agency for his earlier testimony before the HSCA and if in the interim period he had received any instructions designed to 1iiit or restrict his cooperation at the 17 October interview. Mr. Golitsyn reported that he told Mr. Klein he had not been punished by the Agency in any way and that his instructions before this interview, as before, were to give his full cooperation to the HSCA. cc: Mr, Scott Breckinridge, OLC IC qsj . e David H.
