Status:
Thus far, no potent substance cr substances have baen identif'7,d

have been subjected. ro pcychechemical asant has be sn found which,

The main reason for this fellure is the extrera scarcit7 of material
now left for analysis. Other reasons for the 7ary slew progress E :

Physical Cnt%ractsristics:
From the residue, f-,11zoof the Research and Development Divisicn
obtsined a few crystals by additicn of hydrochloric acid. He has determined
certain physical characteristics and offered to continua the physical charae-
terizaticn, iacluding density, refractive in.lex and x-ray diffractien-pattErn,
(see attac:-cd folder for illustration) and nolccular weight determination. Dr.
or."'"""4.4.",-or=i7.7=Yedical School has detcrnined other p:.ysical properties
- -
of the crystals, including the infrared and ultraviolet absorption spectra.
Results indicated that Ircbably scopolamine is absent.

Chnrical Chrracteristics:
The belief has been expressed by Dr.sC77sUas related by ad
r.r.t14..;t1 that the crystals are likely of am erganic nature and that 1.cs.Fibly
nitrogen is irosent. The substance or substances thus ray have the charact:r
of an vlhsloid. No ricroehoTical tests have been made and ax:arently only fcw

3. Er.ireagreed to complete his tests end compare his findings with.
those to be obtained in a separate study of any substance snbritted to hi.

4, ressrszts, to censult seneene farlliEr with
the micropkysical ana zicrechemical characteristics of alkaloids, hoping to
%thus characterize the neterial in question.
5. ].!r. asked for assistance and offered his own in corseting
psychochemical substances which alone, or in coreeinationomay be useful EL:ides
or key substances for further testing and comparison.
6. A list of potent rsychoghemical agents is therefore in preparatien
and includes substances frcm both natural, (estscially nussian orbit se:zrces)
and synthetics. .
7. Data for the microchemical testing, as well as the nicrophysio2o7ical
or microtoxicological testing, (such as using the Daphnia as a micropharnacolo
.ical test zethed) are being collected.
