Cuba-USSR The classroom phase of SAM training for Cubans apparently has ended. B. Greece Karamanlis has carried out his threat to quit politics. His resignation from the party (National Radical Union) may make it possible for Papandreou, who heads the rival Center Union Party, to survive his first vote of confidence next Wednes- day. C. Cyprus Turkish Cypriots will follow Ankara's lead in publicly rejecting Makarios' proposals to revise the constitution. Makarios intends to go ahead any- way, and violence between Greeks and Turks on the island seems unavoidable. D. Cambodia The Cambodians are celebrating a national holiday, declared to mark Barites death. As a re- ? sult, Ambassador Sprouse has been unable so far to ? see Sihanouk to deliver our protest over the of Cambodian radio statement. Sprouse says this statement has not been repeated in the press. L 50X1 50X1 50X1(1 F I n ? I . I n? Forces loyal to him control two thirds of both houses of Congress. The MNR leftists under Vice President Lechin are being increasingly denied the sources of funds which would come from holding important posts in the party and government. They are, therefore, looking to Cuba and the bloc for backing and guidance to help oust Paz from office next year.
