South Vietnam a. The Italian Ambassador and the Apostolic Delegate in Saigon be- lieve Ngo Dinh Nhu wants to work things out with the US. They say, apparently on the basis of contact with Nhu, that Madame Nhu is ready to leave the country for a time in order to "save face" for the United States. b. The Italian Ambassador con- siders Nhu nonetheless to be basically anti-American and intent on ultimate neutralization and unification of Vietnam. c. Both he and the Apostolic Delegate referred to rumors that Nhu is "in touch" with the North, d.
